Ive recently put together my computer and plugged in the hdmi converter that came with the Evega Gtx460 and then plugged my hdmi cord from the tv to said converter. i then switched to my tv's HDMI1 input source and got a "retrieving data" and then after a few seconds it went to the normal "no signal" blue screen. do you think its a bad hdmi cord? i dont know and really just want to be gaming at this point. any help is great.

EDIT: just tried the motherboards onboard graphics and got the same thing. blackscreen saying retrieving data and then going to the blue "no signal" screen. Please help ):
EDIT: Works on a laptop.. so theirs something wrong with my build.
EDIT: Plugged in an ancient monitor and rebooted the computer and got a "monitor is in sleep mode activate using pc"

didnt use it with the laptop. only reason i say the converter isnt it is because the tv says Retrieving data meaning their is something happening. i think my computer isnt passing POST because of a cpu that came in a damaged box. just my guess. but i have no speaker for the motherboard to find out.

EDIT: ill probably just end up returning the cpu and then going from their. its kinda saddening that i have to go through all this :(

try to find a way to use it without the converter, retrieving data could just be their version of scanning for signal, in otherwords, it could mean it's looking for the signal and not finding it.

try using the lappy with he converter.

good idea.. now that i think it gave me the "retrieving data" when i had the hdmi plugged into the motherboard. i think im going to pull the graphics card itself and try to boot off of the onboard graphics.

EDIT: Alright. im still getting the "retrieving data" when using the onboard graphics (witch im not using the converter on) so this is pretty much yelling the cpu's bad correct?

idk what it would be, i don't think it's the cpu but i can't say it's not, did you use the same cord with your lappy, or a different one, i really don't know what else to say.

used the same cord. heres a pic of the cpu:

does that presuade you atall? because tbh idk what else it would be. i mean the ram fits and someone on a diff computer fourm said it was compatible but it isnt in my mobo manual. that could be it.

the thing that stinks is the amount of possible problems, bad ram, motherboard, cpu or gpu, even the psu if when you power o you don't here any fans.

Gpu, impossible. same problem occurs when using mobo's onboard graphics
Ram, maybe bad.
Motherboard, Should work
Psu, Works, fans all going everythings good their
Cpu, Im going to return and then go from their

I doubt its the CPU, unless there is physical damage to the CPU itself. Did you put the standoffs under the motherboard in all the right places? Got the 4/8 pin CPU power connector plugged in?
