I just bought a computer from a guy online, who deleted windows xp off the computer to run linux, and before he sold it took that off as well. He has the original disk and COA. He didnt install XP back on it for me He told me that to install XP, put disk in, when it starts up, and says "press any key to boot from disk".... to push any key. When it says press any key to boot from cd, it has dots... that appear until i push a key, then they stop coming, and the cd makes some clicking noises like its reading, followed by a whirring noise like its booting uo. But then it does nothing. The whirring subsides and it stays at the push any key to boot from cd screen. Any ideas? I need to get this installed before my cable modem guy comes to install today. Could the disk be bad? It is scratched on the bottom and on the top there is (2) 2-3mm parts where the cd lavel is scratched off, like you can see the disk. The guy said that it doesnt matter because the label is only need to create the disk, and not to read it. I dont buy it. Any ideas?

the label-side of a CD is where all of the data is stored, it sits on top of a layer of plastic, this is why no actual data is lost when you scratch the bottom of a CD. If you have "holes" in the label then that means the data is destroyed in those areas. If you really need it soon, go to walmart and buy Vista but I'm not sure if your computer is fast enough to run it. Could you post the brand and model of the computer?

i knew it, that is why he didnt install it. I did hear that the label was where all the data was stored. I want XP because i heard Vista has problems?

lol, yeah Vista is out of the question for you period.
Jump on newegg or head to the electronics store and see if you can pick up a copy of XP. I know newegg has the OEM version for relatively cheap.

Will this pc be adequate to watch online hockey games? The only reason i bought this is because cable does not have NHL center ice package, but they offer it online. So im gonna hook it up to my tv so i can get all the canadiens games.
I wont be doing anything else but getting online, no games etc
