Need help on gaming pc, $1000 CAD

Hi, I'm looking for a ~$1000 CAD gaming pc to play SC2 and other games. I know absolutely nothing about parts and am not sure which parts are compatible with others. I tried to research and make my own build, but I got confused once I started, haha.

I don't have any preferences on brands so give me your best ~$1000 gaming pc config. I also need an os and monitor, but that's why i put the ~ sign in front of my budget. I can spend more than $1000 but only if it's really nessecary.

Um... Since it's my first time building a pc, anyone have any general tips? Do you need thermal paste, because I've heard that you need it What about an anti-static wrist band? What's the best place to buy the parts? Is there a high chance of breaking the parts? How long does a $1000 gaming pc last anyways? Sorry for all the questions

Please read this post. I think you could build something similar with CAD $1000

If you want to make it cheaper such that you can afford monitor, get 5830 instead of GTX460. or further downgrade it to 5770.
If you need further cut, CPU - Athlon IIx 4. But I do recommend you stay with Phenim II x4

none of those combos are in canada. I have no idea on how to build something similar to that build either if that was what you were trying to do. I can also buy a monitor separately.
