HI, I mentioned my Desktop Project before on this Computer Forum, http://www.computerforum.com/85217-desktop-project.html, and after researching more about Myth TV and Home Made PVR's I feel that I'm ready to purchase some of the computer parts that I will need.

Here's is my Desktop Specs:

Desktop: Dell Dimension 4600 (about 4 years old)
Proceesor: Intel P4 2.40 GHz
RAM: 1.25 GB
CD-R:Lite-On LTN4865 48x Max
CD-R/RW: Sansung CD-R/RW SW-248F
HDD: Maxtor Diamond Max 8 40GB ATA/133 (Free-29.4 GB / Total-38.2 GB)
Graphics Card:nVIDIA GeForce 4 MX 440 w/AGP8x (Dell)

Now my 4 year old Hard Drive, somehow, has a bad sector on it, for more info go here: http://www.computerforum.com/92312-can-t-resize-my-hard-drive.html and here: http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/installation/98809-need-help-installing-ubuntu.html.

and here's the parts I'm going to order from Newegg.com to put in my desktop:

Also I'm going to still put Linux on my desktop and use that has my main OS.

Now my questions I still have for my Desktop Project is:
1) Which Linux Dist. should I use Ubuntu or Mythbuntu (Myth TV + Ubuntu)?
2) Should I just install Linux on my, so to be purchased, new HDD and don't even bother with Window XP Pro/SP2 or not?

Please comment on my desktop idea and tell if there's anything wrong with my idea or if something won't work, etc...

Thanks for all of your help :D.

I'm only a help in hardware, sorry :(

First of all... 500GB and ATA100 only? That's a laugh. Get SATAII minimum...

Also, for $30, might as well get a SATA burner too.

Well oscaryu1 remember that have a 4 year old desktop, and I think my motherboard has SATA connecters. But I do know that my computer has a ATA ribbon cable for 2 Hard Drives. Also I don't think my computer has an SATA for CD/DVD Drivers.

Thats why the case opens up so you can look :)

SATA DVD Drives use the same connection as a SATA HDD.

And ribbon cables for 2 devices are not that rare :)

Well I just placed order with Newegg.com, so all I can do now is wait for my parts to arrive and hope that I don't have any problems and hope it works the way I want it to work. But please still post your comments.
