Need help on what software to get/download

So I want a good virus scanner and protector so I won't get any viruses or hackers.

I was told that Ad-Aware and AVG Free 8.0. I downloaded those for free of there website and used them all the time just to be safe.

But my question is are they really good? Should I get something else?

I'd go with Avira AntiVir for an anti virus and Comodo for a firewall, but that's just me.

AVG works perfect you don't need to worry. I am also using AVG for more than 2 years without any problem.
