Need Help Overclocking Q6600

Hey Everyone,
I've been trying to overclock my Q6600 for sometime now but I keep having problems and since I really never overclocked before I'm not sure what I should do. My overclock is unstable and my computer will freeze here and there. I got my FSB up to 1190 but it doesn't want to go over 1200. When I set it to 1200+ the computer won't even start.

I heard the Q6600 is easy to get to at least 3.0GHz and I would love if I could get mine up to that mark. The two pictures below are from my BIOS so maybe they will help.

Thanks!

Do not attempt the following steps if you're using the stock Intel heatsink/fan.

Set the "CPU Voltage" to 1.4. That seems high, but it's not.

Set the FSB to 1334 and make sure the multiplier is @ 9X. That will bring the speed up to 3.1 GHz.

Are you using Prime95 to test stability? If not, click here to download the program. Use Core Temp to monitor your CPU temps. If the temps go above 70C, that's too high and you should lower the voltage.

Thanks for all your responses! For cooling I'm using an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro. I didn't use Prime95 to test the stability because, well, it's unstable to begin with. Freeze-up here freeze-up there but I'll run Prime95 because you recommended to.

In my BIOS when I raise the voltage it goes up by decimals like 0.0125, 0.0225, 0.0275, ect. Do I want to set it to 1.4 or 0.14?

Thanks again!

EDIT: I just went back to the BIOS and the CPU voltage raises like 0.0125, 0.0225 ect and it won't let me go to 1.400. The highest it lets me go is 0.3875V.

Set the voltage to "Auto" and see what you get. The max voltage level you are describing is impossible. I'm not saying you're wrong, it just doesn't make sense.

I was thinking the same thing when I was trying to overclock by myself. Websites said to raise it to 1.3 or 1.4 but it would never let me, so I came here. In CPU-Z it says 1.203V on auto. I went back to my BIOS to make sure I didn't miss something but the same thing happens; when I press + it goes to 0.0125 and when I press - it goes to the "maximum" 0.3875. Also when I keep going up with the voltage at around 0.1500 the text becomes red. Not sure if that is a warning or something but it might make sense to you.

Carefully read the BIOS section of your manual. See if you find anything that helps you. The BIOS may be screwed up. See if there is a BIOS update available at the MSI website. Be very careful when flashing your BIOS. A bad flash can render your mobo useless.

Ok after about a week of messing with it I'm getting somewhere.

I have the FSB up to 1334 and it boots but now the computer restarts after the loading screen during bootup.

My new BIOS settings:
DOT Control: Disabled
Intel EIST: Disabled
System Clock Mode: Manual
FSB Clock: 1334
Memory Clock: 800
Adjust CPU Ratio: 9

CPU Voltage: 0.0500V
Memory Voltage: 2.00
NB Voltage: Default
SB Voltage: 1.50
FSB VTT Voltage: 12%
Spread Spectrum: Disabled

I figured out MSI's weird CPU voltages and 0.0500V is considered enough for 3.1Ghz. Does anyone see something that shouldn't be? I'm back to stumped.

Thanks!
