im stuck between a amd ml-37 turion 64 or a 1.66ghz core duo centrino cpu..
i know you really cant compare these 2 because one is dual core and the other is a single 64 bit cpu
which one is going to be a faster cpu when it comes down to mutitasking
(these are the 2 chips in hp's laptops that i have to choose from....)
im also going to be compiling c++ and c programs. also im going to use it to edit video.

I would go with the Core Duo. My friend has the CPU in his notebook with a gigabyte of RAM and he gets very good performance. This processor will do great in multi-tasking.

I'll have to second the core duo, my dad has a dell laptop with coreduo and a gig of ram, it's blazing fast.

above are the 2 laptops...i went with the amd turion...
i went with the amd becuase it was cheaper and had more ram
but im not really on a budget...

i thought that it being a 1.66ghz cpu would hinder performence compared to the amd running at 2ghz..i know that clock speeds are the end all be all. i also know the amd turion dual core are coming out soon, but i need the laptop now...
but between the 2 laptops would u guys still go with the core duo's?

The 1.66Ghz CPU is a dual-core, meaning its like have two processors in one chip.

for single threaded apps, whatever has a higher frequency. in multithreaded apps get core duo.
that is unless we speak of turion X2's... then whatever has a higher frequency.
