Need help picking a video card

I'm trying to piece together what I will need for my first build and I've come to the video card and dont have a clue. I plan on using the computer for regular home use and as a tv tuner/dvr for video editing of television recordings. I would like to be able to record television onto the computer in high definition from digital cable and be able to edit the recordings. Hopefully this is all possible.

I will be getting an i5 cpu with a gigabyte GA-P55-UD4P motherboard so it must be compatible. I would like to be able to give you my budget for the card but its hard to say because I'm seeing a huge price range on them and dont know the real difference between top of the line and bottom. I am willing to spend whatever is necessary to get true HD picture quality on the computer. Please help!!
 
3870 may be faster than 4670, but when consider the power consumption, and he probably using it to hook to telly. 4670 with native HDMI would be the better choice.
 
Thank you for the replies. Dont get me wrong I am very happy with that price, but I see some cards out there for around $500. What makes a card worth over 400 dollars more than the ones recommended to me so far? Hopefully it is not enough to make it worth considering for my use. Thanks again everybody.
 
Unless your a extreme gamer there not worth that much. If you wanted to jump up to 100-130 bucks you could go for a 4850 or GTS 250. Go up to 140-170 bucks a 4870 or GTX 260.

IMHO - Nothing - it's like paying 1,000 dolllars for the latest and greatest CPU that will be 400 bucks 6 months later.

* The higher end GPU's are for modern 3D gaming - and the 500.00 Versions are bleeding edge Frame Speed - some of them have Water Coolers - and dual cards built into one -
* TV Tuner does most of the work for viewing TV on your PC
* I don't know much about video editing - but I think the CPU does most of the work for your Video editing - not your video card.

That's why you're getting recommended lower end Graphics cards. B/c unless you plan to do some gaming - you just don't need the more expensive models. If you don't plan to do some gaming - there's no point in spending the money for a feature you'll never use.
