I just had a hard drive die on me so I am in the market for a replacement and maybe an external hard drive for backups.
Here are some internal I looked at:

Which one of those would be better performance wise? I am guessing the black drives have better performance? Looks like the smallest black drive is 500gb. I would prefer to stick with WD even though one just died on me. I think the reason it died is because it was being defragged once a week automatically by Windows and I did not realize it.
I don't know much about externals. Here is one I looked at:

If I had the money, I would consider SSD's. But they are just too much money and not enough space.
