Im a newbie here, and i am by no means a computer guy. I can work one and i am an average 21 year old. so i can figure stuff out with some guidance.

heres my prob:

I have a dell inspiron 6000 running windows xp, and it stared to be extremely slow. I transfered all my documents and media to an external hard drive and did my defrag and disk cleanup, but still nothing. With this I am assuming there is an embedded virus. Is there anyway to fix this other than rebooting my harddrive?

If not, how do I reboot it, and what cd's/ numbers will i need to reinstall everything. I cant seem to find any of them so i need to get a hold of them. I keep all my computer stuff together in a box so im starting to think i never got them with the computer. Please help me. I really need my computer back. thank you.

you need a genuine xp disk with serial number!

also you dont need to move your files for defrag and disk clean up, defrag sorts all of your files out on your hard drive so they are quicker to access etc.

however if you need to do a fresh install of xp you need to move the files as everything gets deleted.

i got a hold of an xp disk from my aunt.. can i use her serial number or do i need to get mine from dell with my service express number? Also, I heard something about application disks too?

if she is using the same serial number then i think it would be illegal!!

you can use her disk but you should have a serial number on the case of your dell, as long as her disk matches what it says on your serial number sticker you should be fine to use it!

are you on about your computer driver disk?

When you are starting up your computer if you have the original software press f11 a bunch of times and it should take you to dell recovery and take you through the set-up then you will have all your drivers and stuff already installed. This only works on Dells made after 1994
