I have wanted to reformat my computer because I've been having trouble with it, especially when I first get on it. How do I do that? I got the OS disk and the disk with all the drivers and utilites. I have Windows Vista Home Prem 32 bit.

Well, first I'd do system recovery... I'm not sure, because I have XP, but I'd assume it would be in all programs -> accessories -> system tools.

if that does not fix your problem, then pop your OS disk into the drive and reboot. it may say something like "press any key to boot from CD"... well, do that. if not, check your BIOS to make sure (under the boot tab) that your optical drive is set at a higher boot priority than your hard disk drive.

System recovery is no good, I want it to be like I got it new. I know that your'e suppose to put the OS one in and reboot but it's been awhile. Ill try that.

Good luck, and may the force be with you.

I had some issues with the BSOD when reformatting my comp... no-OS-mode is not the best time to get the blue screen of death. I managed

Ok, all you have to do is boot from your Vista disk. You go through it and when it comes up to your partitions, delete them and create a new one. Then, continue running the disk and you'll be fine. :)

i put the disk in and restarted my computer but nothing, i get an option but it pops up real fast. im not sure how to make my CD drive have more priority over hard drive, nothing shows in system config under boot tab.

Alright, I reformatted my computer. When I was doing it gave me some option and I dont really remember what it was about. Im having a few problems.

First problem is that windows firewall is not anywhere to be seen. It seems like an important program...
Secondly, my hard drive is showing 10GB free out of 100GB... that doesnt seem good to me. Should I delete the Window.old folder I have taking 70GB's?
Other than that, Ive had a few other minor problems, ie the only shortcut on my desktop was recycle bin and I wasnt sure how to install the drivers with my driver and utilities disk.
Just got on the internet now and windows is updating stuff.

If anyone could help me out with those two problems I would appreciate it.

Windows firewall comes with XP SP2, if you installed an older version of windows it wont have it. Did you copy your old hard drive contents to windows.old? A windows install shouldn't be 70GB, look around inside the folder (assuming it is a folder) and if there's nothing you need then I'd delete it. If there is stuff you need, copy it out then delete the rest.

I just used the disc that came with my computer which did come with firewall.
Windows.old is a folder, Ill go thru it and see if I want anything.
