Need help removing PS Guard and possibly other

New Member
I'm new to this whole forum thing and I'm not all that technically savy. Let me know if I'm doing anything wrong. Anyways, been having trouble with PS Guard. I've read a few different forums and tried several applications with little success. I don't have the black warning screen and I haven't seen the little exclamation mark that points to PSGuard anymore. I also don't have the about:blank screen anymore. Last night the PSGuard sofware loaded--i don't think I instigated anything. I removed and it a little while later it loaded again. Spybot detected "Smitfraud-c" but could not remove. McAfee detects "W32/Alemod.d.dll" but cannot fix.

Can someone please help?

There's really not much here. Run Hijackthis and check these lines.

Close all windows and browsers, and hit "Fix checked".

Then navigate to C:\Program Files\PSGuard< delete this folder.

It may be that those programs are flagging orphaned registry entries, do you know how to search the registry?

I deleted the two lines. I have attached the new log. I don't know how to search the registry. It does not seem to have any real problems right now; however, I still have the McAfee virus detected "W32/Alemod.d.dll," which it cannot fix. Also not sure if I should be concerned about "Smitfraud-c" that is being picked up by Spybot but cannot fix. Any idea? Thanks!

Smitfraud is a collective term for a number of infections, including PS Guard.

Try running Mcafee in safemode. To do this, restart the computer and tap f8 until a menu appears and select "safemode".

Then download Registrar Lite. Install and run it. Select "Search" at the top. Enter "psguard" in the box, and select "registry" in the box below. Click the search button at the bottom that looks like a magnifying glass, and delete all entries found.

Post back with how you get on.

Did as you recommended. McAffee could still not fix the W32'Alemod.d.dll virus. McAffee continues to read "The file C:\WINDOWS\system32\WININET.DLL is infected by the W32/Alemod.d.dll virus and cannot be cleaned."

When I search Registrar Lite it picked up more than 40 entries and I was able to delete all of them except the following two which showed up as folders:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ShudderLTD\PSGUARD

and

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ShudderLTD\PSGUARD\PSGUARD

It said "Access Denied"

When I drill into the registry folders it also shows the following folders in red but they were not in the original log. Not sure if this is relevant.

Sorry, I might have read too much into your first post. Have you run Smitrem? If you haven't, boot into safemode and run Smitrem, double click on Runthis.bat to start the tool. When cleanup has finished, run an Adaware scan, then scan with Ewido. boot back to normal mode and post back.
 
Looking better

I did as you directed and it is looking better. I then ran McAfee again and it cleaned up the remaining problems. No more infected message. :) I tried running spybot again and it still detects the Smitfraud-c (referenced 43 files). I drilled into the folder and noted that all 43 had the same path and ended in various different websites. Do you know if there is a way to remove this? The path is as follows:

Spybot is detecting orphaned registry entries, they're harmless as there's no file associated with them. Download Regscrubxp. Run it and remove all it finds. If there's any left afterwards, use Registrar Lite to search for the names of the websites and delete them that way.
