Need help selling computer...

Hey guys,

I'm a lurker here and I have come upon the need to switch computer types. I love my Desktop computer but with possibly starting school away from home in the spring, I am going to need a laptop. The problem is, I've never sold a computer before, nor do I know how to go about doing it, prices, etc... So I need your help if you guys don't mind.

My computer specs are:
AMD Athlon 2400 (2.0 Ghz) hooked into ASUS a78n-X MOBO

Windows XP SP2
128mb 9200 Radeon Graphics card
80 Gig HD (5200 RPM I believe)
1 gig Kingston Hyper X RAM
1 52x CD reader
1 52x CD burner/DVD reader
Custom tower...see through side

There are some other things, but I am at work and I cannot think off of the top of my head. The computer has worked flawless. There is a bunch of software that would come with it.

How much would that computer tower be worth with everything in it? I was thinking maybe 300$ would be safe?

Also, is there a way too wipe personal information off of the computer without having to do a full wipe?

Whatever I get for it will go towards my new notebook, which is gonna be 1.5k

Home built or built by a company? You probably won't be able to get to muchg money if you go through ebay etc.. I don't know where you live but if you have the opportunity try putting an ad up in www.craigslist.com

Home Built...well actually built at a tradeshow for me, only thing AM I put in myself was the Kingston Hyper-X RAM, about 1 month ago.

I live in PA. Computer brand new was 650$. Only addition was the 1 gig of Hyper-X and the DVD reader/CD burner. Do you think it would be feasible to fetch 250$ atleast?

I would do Craigslist with the $250 "must sell" or "will dicker". I'd list the software you will be including. See what happens because Craiglist is Free and local, hence people would be able to meet you and see the machine operating before they buy it. I sold mine through a local circulation called swap sheet. Not sure if you have that down your way, but it cost money to list. Check you local convenient store to see if PA has it.
