Need help setting up European desk top in the US

Does anyone have any experience setting up a European desktop to work here in the US?

A friend of the family is here from France and has an up/down currency converter but when we get everything plugged in the computer doesn't do anything, it makes no noise at all and the monitor doesn't recognize it.

The monitor comes on but says it's going to sleep right away, so I assume it is getting juice.

Any ideas of what we're doing wrong? Thank you for any help :)

Morden PSU would operate 110 - 230V, open the case and double check. If you friend already have a transformer, it would probably be the problem of PC not the voltage.

Have you made sure the Power Supply has been switched from 220 to 110v? I have never had a problem with my desktops after they went from the UK to USA and back. If the switch is not flicked, usually hidden behind a sticker saying !230v! on a European Power Supply, and it has been plugged in, chances are that you'll need a new power supply.
