need help transferring files

I'm trying to transfer files from my laptop (with a bad video card, so its hard to read anything on the screen) to my desktop. I set up sharing capability of the C:/ drive on the laptop as "allow sharing on network" and "allow network users to change my files" (clicked a check in those two boxes) and so I assumed that would allow me to transfer all files. However, it keeps saying that I can't access or modify my music files (mp3s) and those are the main things I want to transfer. It says in the prompt box that I don't have "administrative permission from the network" to transfer the files. Also, how do I make more files sharable? I'm unable to access all the files I want from the laptop. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Andy

Which OS are you using on the laptop? if is vista or higher, you might have problem to copy files from my document folder or it's sub-folders, is the music folder a sub-folder of my documents? Can you access other folder from the laptop? if you can access other folders and the music folder id under my documents folder, just move it to the root directory.

Laptop OS is Windows XP, Desktop OS is Windows 7.

The music folder is in My Documents.

Root Directory? Is that C:\?

Yes the c:\ folder. What you can do is just move the music folder or any floder in the my document folder to the c:\ folder. then copy them from there as long as you can access the c:\ folder or any other folders. there is a way to copy from my document folder, but it require create same user name and password on your target computer.
Best regards.
Paul.
