I apologize for putting posts in multiple areas about computer noise, because I cant find out whats making so much noise. I finally booted my computer with

no case fans
no cpu fan
no video card

STILL LOUD

What is left, the only thing I can think of is the power suppply because it has an inbuilt fan. Can anybody think of anything that could be making noise in the computer?

If it is the power supply, can anyone suggest a good company for at least 450 watts, and not expensive. I see many online, but am unsure which to get.

Firstly: you should always run your computer with the cpu heatsink fan running.

Have you taken the side of your case off when the computer is running and listened to different components to see what is making the noise?

Definitely run it with cpu heatsink and fan.

Then remove the side of the case and stop fans with a pencil (or something else non-conductive) to see if the fans make the noise. Watch out with doing this to the psu because you can damage parts inside, just don't stick in your "thing" to far...

If the fans aren't it, remove the power cord from the hard disk and try again. If that's still not it. Then just start listening to several components like ambushed said.

I know its bad to not have the cpu fan, i just risked it for 5 seconds. I will try the psu idea, thanks. I am curious as to why the psu wouldnt make noise if it wasnt connected to the hard disk. Any suggestions, for a quiet psu?

Personally, I'd never screw with the PSU fan while the unit is juiced. There's just too many things that could go wrong.

Hard Drives make a certain amount of noise, too, don't forget. It's hard to say what is normal since different Drives run a bit louder than others, but they do have moving parts, so noise. Soft whirring noises are normal for some, as are the disks being read during installing/opening programs, but any sort of clicking is bad.

If you came to the conclusion that your PSU is screwed, don't bother trying to fix it just buy a new one.

They are pretty cheap as well.
