I am starting to notice lack of performance in pc gaming. What should I upgrade to make computer run better at max graphics? I have $300 to spend currently but, I would still like to know my next steps. Maybe next month I will have a little more to spend.

Looks like you got the 5850 video card which is really low end. Before we can tell you what to upgrade to, we need to know what exact model of power supply you have.

But even at a budget of $300 you can get a good card and a good power supply. What games do you play?

Rosewill Hive-750, Hive Series 750W Modular Power Supply, 80 PLUS Bronze Certified, Single +12V Rail, Intel 4th Gen CPU Ready, SLI & CrossFire Ready

I play a lot of games especially new mmorpgs and witcher 3. I need to get my computer as high end as possible. If you need any more info let me know. How is my processor and other stuff or do i just need to mostly worry about a graphics card for gaming?

5850 isn't hugely horrendous but getting pretty old at this point. Would be comparable to about a 7770 or 250x which was mid range a couple generations ago.

A 290x or 970 might get choked a bit on the CPU side depending on what you're trying to play.

So, what should I get? I got completely two different answers and now i'm just confused.

What specific motherboard do you have?

MSI 970A-G46 AM3+ AMD 970 + SB950 6 x SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS

I see the 290x is about $400 unless i'm looking in the wrong stores, I would like to spend around $300. Do you think my graphics card is the only part i need to upgrade?

R9 290 starts at $279 and goes up on Newegg.com

You could upgrade the fx8320 cpu but thats $139. You could get an R9 270x for roughly $179. So both would be a little over $300.

I cant find a single r9 290x for $270 can you please link some or private message me? I would also prefer to get the free batman game or something lol. That is why i was thinking about getting the 970 but, which do you think is better? I wont be able to buy another graphics card for awhile, so i'm defiantly looking for a good brand.

Just confirm before i pull the trigger and buy it.

My options are to buy the r9 290

The 970 and 290x if I can come up with about $40 more which I could probably do if the difference is noticeable.

This is all I should need to do my processor should be ok right?

Right now, your video card is holding you back. I would get the 290 now and then get the fx 8320 processor at a later date if you so wish to upgrade it. The 965 is a great processor, I still have mine actually, girlfriend is using it now. You should be able to OC it to about 4.0 ghz.

Cool thx for the info and time your awesome :)

I have one last question, I play mostly on a hd tv with HDMI cord. I have played on 2 different tvs since I had the 5850 and for reason I can only play at resolution 1360 x 768. If I try to play in another resolution. I will get a widescreen effect but, around the whole screen in a square and the colors usually go wacky. I v tried to adjust and stretch the screen to fit in the amd catalyst and nothing works. Do you think the cause of this is because of the 5850 graphics card? When i keep at 1360x768 everything looks amazing but, a little big.

Did you try updating the video driver? That's usually an overscaling option setting. But yeah, the card could be going bad since you said it was working okay for you before.

yes, its up to date it will not let me over scale for some reason. the card still works perfect always has at 1360x768. It has never worked correctly at a different resolution since I opened the box. I just learned to live with it even though it's very frustrating.
