Need help upgrading to new motherboard

Hello everyone, I need help in deciding what kind of motherboard will be able to fit in my computer, replacing my old ASUS P5S800-VM. I don't have the money to buy a new computer right now so decided to just replace the mobo instead. I'm looking for something newer, with the latest hardware like PCI-Express slots (which the ASUS P5S800-VM sadly does not have) and core 2 duo processor.

Here are my current motherboard specs:

CPU: LGA775 socket with P4 Processor 2.79 ghz
Memory: Two 184-pin DIMM sockets support up to 2gb
Storage: Serial ATA with RAID 0 and RAID 1 configuration
Power Requirement: ATX power supply (with 20-pin and 4-pin 12 V plugs)
ATX Form Factor: 9.6 in x 9.6 in (24.4 cm x 24.4 cm)

My computer's power supply is 400 wats max

I can live with buying a new processor and ram (cheap ones)

Do you guys have any good suggestions?

Unfortunately it does not look like you can put a Core 2 Duo on that board.

The cheapest Core 2 Duo I've found is about $120.00.

I would suggest buying all 3 new components; cpu, board, RAM.

The only problem is finding a "uATX" board that will fit in your case.
And, the money to buy them obviously. lol

Just suggestions.

Is your pc a prebuilt system or did you build it yourself?

If you built it yourself and bought the case separately,
you'll be able to move the standoffs to accommodate
different size boards.

built it myself, picked the mobo and the case.

but will any new motherboard really be able to fit into this one? I don't want to buy a new mobo and then
not be able to install it. This will be my first time changing from an old motherboard to a new, so thats why im asking.
Any new mobos out there that will go fine with my 400 wat power supply?

Your old Mobo is m-atx.
Replace something with m-atx, to be safe. What is your overall budget?

For your psu concern, it would depends on the brand, but as far as you use onboard vga or low end video card, it would be fine.

cases r so cheap that it would but a shame 2 miss out on a mobo u really want to buy just because it wont fit in the case u have. Obviously if u c 1 u want that does fit your case, then brilliant.
