i got my mind set on the intel.i was looking on ebay.both are brand new

I could go with a HP M9000t
intel duo core 2 (2.6mhz)
2mb memory
320gb hard drive
$720.00
http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/sh...&lang=en&cc=us

or

HP M9040n
intel duo 2 quad (2.4mhz)
3mb memory
640gb harddrive (2x320)
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/g...reg_R1002_USEN
on ebay right now for $250 w/ 2 1/2 days left.

i just want the best bang for my buck.so should i bid on the quad hoping i can get it for the same price or less than the duo.or is the 2.6 duo better than the 2.4 quad overall anyways.with the quad ill also double my hard drive and get a extra mb of memory.i will also beeing adding memory within a week of buying so ill have about 5-6mb of memory either way.i need some feedback on this asap

and im guessing windows 3.1 = Vista?

and whats with people not liking vista and switching back to xp?
i never have used vista.have xp on my current computer.

never built one before and dont have time to.i rather just buy it.and it will have about 6mb of RAM within a week of getting it

6MB WILL NOT RUN VISTA. Using your way of viewing things, you'll need 512MB to run Vista at minimum settings. You mean GB (Vista requires 512MB, recommended 1GB, which is 1024MB).

So which proccessor is better overall. 2.4 quad or 2.6 Duo in your opinion?discuss

Quad core. 4 cores vs 2 cores. You do not add up the speeds. It's more futureproof and overall performance is alot better.

... Windows 3.1 was created before Windows 95... thus you can infer that it's nowhere near Vista... as <1995 technology hasn't even recognized DX8.1...

Vista is great, if it comes with the service pack. Vista vs XP? Your choice. Your personality.

$750 could get you 250GB, 4GB, Q6600... overall should be much better if you built it yourself...

$750... probably higher.

do you need 6GB of memory?

no.would be nice but i really dont need it.it comes w/ 3 already.and theres 4 slots.so ill just add another gig even though i might not even need it.but just nice to know its there :).its like have 500hp under your hood.you might not need that much but its there if you do :)

i'd build a computer if I were you, you can build a much better computer than those you buy prebuilt. You also get peace of mind knowing that quality parts are going in there. Theres many guides on building your own PC, and its fairly simple as long as you use a little bit of logic and have an up to date guide on how to do it.
