Need help, want to run COD4 on max settings.

Hey, I recently bought an HIS 3870 (along with a 600w PSU) thinking it would do the trick, but so far it hasn't. I've updated all the drivers and everything.

When I'm in 1680x1050 with everything maxed, I run at like 40fps... I want to run 90, stable.

Here are my specs:

Chipset : Intel i945P
Processor : Intel Core 2 Duo E6420 @ 2133 MHz
Physical Memory : 3072 MB (3 x 1024 DDR2-SDRAM )
Video Card : ATI Technologies Inc Radeon HD 3870

Let me know if it's just a question of overclocking my GPU (don't know how to do that) or I have to upgrade other stuff.
 
i would have thought you would be getting much better performance then that.. maybe its cos of the resolution your playing at or something.. is the graphics card 256 or 512mb?

also, overclocking your graphics card is very easy... but best you get someone knowledgable to explain the process to you :)
 
It's the 512MB 256bit GDDR4 version. I think my CPU or MOBO could be bottlenecking the maximum performance, but that's just a guess.
 
well the cpu is fine..
and the mobo looks alright to me,
with my 8800gt and everything on full i get... well give me a minute and ill check haha

alright i get minimum 50 fps. when im under heavy fire and so on... usually around 120-150 when im just walking around...
so yeah that does seem a bit low...

on my pentium D whihc is really old i have similar frames to my current q6600... so i dont think the cpu could be a problem.

then again i have no idea what im talking about. where are all the intelligent people today? hah
