I built this computer 3 years ago and it has been excellent. I want to upgrade it and make it faster and better since the price of everything has gone down in the last few years.

This is what I have.

Windows 7 home premium

64 bit operating system

Processor: AMD AthlonII x2 250 3.01GHZ

Crucial Ballistix Tracer 3GB (3 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Desktop Memory w/ Red & Green LEDs

OCZ StealthXStream OCZ700SXS 700W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Active PFC Power Supply

PowerColor AX4870 512MD5 Radeon HD 4870 512MB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video

I am looking for any Ideas that would work.

Depends on how much you want to spend?

Your board only supports the Athlon/Phenom. If you want a FX you would need to upgrade the board and CPU.

Need to add a extra stick on memory. Need to run 2 or 4 sticks for dual channel.

Maybe get a SSD drive and use the Blue for storage.

The 4870 is still a ok card but getting dated.

I could spend $300 to $400. What would you get with that price range? Could you type the info about what I need, so I can search for the parts and get them from newegg or some other place?

ssd would just boot faster, luxury item, but in a gaming rig most of it is anyways, but no performance difference.

Simple findings from my own experience. there are things that SSDs are good for and things that they absolutely suck at.
they are good at:
-Benchmarking
-Reloading windows pretty fast
-Shutdown/restart/start-up acceleration
-ego

things they suck donkey at:
-$ per GB
-gaming (some games are marginally better, some actually suffer with them. BF3 takes on average 3 seconds longer to start up on a samsung 830 vs a Seagate 1TB 7200 RPM)

Okay, skip the ssd, Any other ideas of what I should buy to make this computer faster? What is the best bang for the buck?

you could, but I would not. The 4870 is not that great anymore. If you want a space heater, you can not do much better than a 4870 unless you go GF100.

8G of ram and a newer graphics card.
You game and everything right? I'd look at a 560ti or something if so. Unless you'd wanna spend more which is always recommended.

Could you give me a suggestion on a new card?
HD7850 or higher. DO not get a GTX660(ti) based card, as they have very band bottlenecking from memory bandwidth. GTX670 would be good too, but I seriously doubt it is worth the price seeing as you can get a HD7970 that will kick its arse for about the same price.
