Need help with a college student laptop

i can build desktops but when it comes to laptops im clueless and a friend ask me to see what i could find for him for college he gave me the budget 250-320ish and screeen size 15-17 and all it will be used for is school work so word and powerpoint and surfing the internet no gaming what so ever so can you guys get me pointed in the right direction with this thanks before hand!!

Do not go with the PPC processor since Apple will be stopping their support for those.
