Need Help with a New Build

Hi,

Hope some experts from around here can help.

Right, I have been thinking about getting a new PC... and am now thinking that it would be educational and fun to build one from scratch.

Only prior experience is putting in new Ram/Graphics cards on old pc.

I am a little out of the loop as far as what the latest tech is so could do with a little help on components.

With my current PC i find that overheating is a major problem (even though it has like 5 fans in there...), so for this new build I want to make sure everything is as cold as a cucumber!

Budget: ~£1000 (though it is quite flexible)
I have a 19" Iiyama monitor but am thinking of upgrading that to a 22" widescreen... Also have a sound card which i can use (Creative). Btw current pc is a 2gb ram, amd-fx53, x1950 pro, 80gb hdd. i have logitech 5.1 speakers so don't need to buy new one's.

I play some games... e.g. FM2008/Civ4/Pro Evo Soccer/a little Battlefield. Use the PC for work too (excel mainly)

So I guess that it doesn't have to be TOP spec, as the very top spec components no doubt carry a premium, so I want something which has good value for money too. But it has to be quite future proof, so the spec has to be pretty decent.

I will need to get Vista too.

Thats the story, and to be honest I am a little daunted by the prospect of building it myself, so any helpful comments will be very much appreciated.

So components required I guess are:

Case, Fans, CPU, Mobo, RAM, HDD, PSU, Graphics Card, DVDRW, oh & more Fans/Cooling.

Await your suggestions.

Thanks!

Any system with a decent case and HSF should run cool with 1 intake and 1 exhaust fan. So you don't need to buy bazillions of fans.

I would recommend you use http://www.scan.co.uk because they've got really good prices and a good choice of parts.

Parts wise, I would recommend something along the lines of:

E8200
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L MoBo
512mb 8800GT
2gb OCZ or Corsair in dual channel
Coolermaster Cosmos RC-1000 case (comes with all the fans you need)
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU heatsink/fan
620w Corsair HX-series PSU
750gb Samsung Spinpoint F1 drive - fastest available and cheap

You should be able to find all of these parts on Scan.

Good luck, and if you need any help building it, there's a great sticky showing a step-by-step guide to building a PC from scratch.
