Hey all,

A friend of mine is using my old desktop for basic things like web browsing, and he play World of Warcraft on it. It is a sony vaio vgc-rb52. He added 2 GB of RAM to it, and now he wants to add a cheap video card just so its ale to run WoW without all the lag.

What he wants is a cheap gpu that would work on the board that could run wow an fairly high settings..I know its not a terribly demanding game so he shouldnt nothing TOO extravagant.

Thanks for the help

5770 cards look good, but Isn't it a little bit overkill? Yes that is the computer he is using.
Also, i need to be sure that the card will fit in his computer..

anything cheaper out there?

$60 is a good price ranger for him...I would say probably $80 tops, but i would have to ask him if it's even worth putting that kind of money into this computer.

That card would probably be good, the only think I'm worried about reading the reviews is that ppl are making it seem liek a pretty big card.

Well my old man runs a I5 system and plays WoW and in Dalaran he uses a 7600GT 256mb and maxes all settings (except for shadow) with view distance @ 60% with 40+ FPS in Dalaran and 60 FPS in raids this is with a 22'' 1680x1050 monitor too at the native.

So you don't need a high-end GPU like everyone claims on WoW its more processor based for frames his processor should be 3.0ghz or better (dual-core) to avoid any lag.
If you live in the USA go to Craigslist.org and search your local area you can find low-end GPU 90% of the time for 1/3 of the online prices.

4650/8600GT are small cards and will max WoW but I would try and get a 9800GT or 4850 as they will max WoW + the next expansion (if they upgrade the engine at all)

Thanks for the input guys, its a lot of help. I'll pass on the word to him and probably check out craigslist, and see where that takes us.

Please download PC Wizard and install it from my sig. Run it and click FILE, SAVE AS and click OK. Copy the contents out of that text file into this thread. Also, record what psu model and make into this thread. Take the side of the PC and read the sticker on the PSU if you are unsure. PSU model needed.

Any advice without this info is bogus.

Sorry it took so long...heres what i got off of pc wizard
