Hey guys i need some help... I just put together my new computer and im having problems while playing a game. What happens is when im in a game like WoW or the FEAR demo, after a few minutes the screen will just go blank, sometimes it will restart the computer and sometimes it will give me a error about being out of range and showing something lke 30hz - 60hz, my buddy told me its something about syncing my video card with my monitor... does that sound right? this is just pissing me off, having a new computer and cant even use it :( please help me out.... ive already checked the ram with and thereis no errors with it... the system is a athlon 64 3500+ with 1gb corsair XMS, and the vid card is ati 9800 pro... please help!

If it happens in the middle of a game, I SERIOUSLY doubt it's anything with syncing the monitor, whatever he means... Maybe if it's when the game first starts/changes the res...

My bet would be something with drivers or a power issues. Perhaps look into swapping out your power supply if you have another one handy... Or, if you could find another video card, you could always have a faulty card.

Really lots of things could be causing this. Just will take trial and error.

Had a similar problem with th same card at a internet gaming cafe... There is an options to turn it from 8x to 4x and 1x in the video card options. Turn it to 4x and youll be fine. Not noticable change. i think it was an overheating card. Was with the dell 8400 desktop

yea trial and error. have u checked for all the updated drivers for the vid card? how about the cpu fan...is that working top notch..could be a temp issue. sometimes the monitor will be out of range because of a diff in resolution and frequency fromt he vid card to the monitor. check the frequency and resolution of the vid card (usually through the software that comes with the vid card) and then compare them to the freq and res of the monitor(usually seen either by going through the menu found by pressing the menu button on the monitor or by going into the win xp properties and looking at the settings tab) good luck..past back with the status.

I have the same problem.. only playing farcry (on max settings). The screen locks and the VPU recoverer comes up. I don't know if its overheating as i have an Artic Cooler on it, but i don't have RAM sinks.
