Need help with device driver

I need help getting a new USB 2.0 CardBus PC Card to function as a usb 2.0 port and not as usb 1.1. I'm not sure if this is the place to post or not. I have a Dell Latitude which is about 5 years old.

The installation manual that came with the card said to use my Windows O/S Installation CD to update the driver but I have moved about 8 times since I bought it and can't find the CD.

I've read in different threads that I need to change the BIOS to run the USB 2.0 but don't know how to do that.

I've also read that because I've updated windows with SP2, I shouldn't have any problems because that service pack had the usb 2.0 support in it. I have updated it and it still doesn't work. The window update website says I have all the current updates installed.

I know the card works because the two slots currently work as usb 1.1 slots.

The card manual says I should have the following list of drivers under my device menu:
NEC PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controller
NEC USB Open Host Controller
NEC USB Open Host Controller
USB 2.0 Root Hub Device
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub

I have the following under my device manager:
NEC PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controller (B1)
NEC PCI to USB Open Host Controller
NEC PCI to USB Open Host Controller
Standard Universal PCI to USC Host Controller
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub

Thanks for the help.

You should hard to find that installation disk and keep it in a safe place to start of with. The installer of any device may at times need something off of the OS disk where you will then see a prompt come up asking for it. When you are back in the device manager and right click on the items there and choose the update driver option you will then choose the select hardware from list to manually select the hardware namely a usb device.

You will then be prompted for the location of the drivers needed where you browse the installation disk to have Windows copy and install them again. You amy get prompted for the Windows disk at that time as well for the needed usb default drivers. So make sure you find that.

I found the CD from Dell that had the device drivers on it. After installing the new drivers, it still didn't work correctly. I don't know why Dell would put a driver for USB 2.0 on a CD for a laptop that only comes with a USB 1.1. I don't see why I can't download it from the net. Any other advice would help. Right now I'm stuck, spent too many hours with nothing to show for it. Thanks again for the help.

The driver found on the disk may have been for 98-ME or 2000 by the sound of that. They should have an update at their support site that you can readily download for XP. What model number is that? You would need to know that in order to use the dropdown menus at the support link here to match the correct download. http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?
