need help with DVD burning

hi there, I'm sorry about posting this thread because it's probably been asked before.. but I got a problem with burning DVD's..

I'm not having problems burning DVD's really, but how I do it.

you see: what I just want to do is, to burn some of my television series (.avi files) onto a DVD with a simple menu.

now, I haven't tried just basically copying them onto the disc (I'm kind of a rookie when it comes to making DVD's).

so I google'd around a bit and came across a program called 'DVDflick'. so I dragged my episodes in (12, which should fit) and started the process.

then, it was busy for over 2 hours 'recoding' the files, (I thought it only added a menu and burned it on the disc?) and about 15 minutes of actually burning it on the disc.

then, out of nowhere I got a message 'disc is full' while the 12 episodes together only were 4.3 gigabyte of space.. (this DVD is supposed to be able to hold up to 4.7 Gig of space).

could anyone please help me? all I want to do is get those episodes off my computer onto a DVD with a small menu (preferably around 12 episodes per disc).

thank you so much for reading this,

The actual limit on a dvd is right around 4.3gb, so you would have to keep the total size below that.

Could also buy a few dual layers. they are useful and and have a time a place. hold approx twice as much.

Let's see. Twelve "30-minute" episodes makes six solid hours of video. That's a lot to try to cram onto a 4.3/4.7GB single-layer DVD, even with DVDFlick. I'll wager the video and/or sound quality would truly suck.

As much as I swear by DVDFlick, squeezing that much video onto one disc is asking a lot of the program. I'd try six episodes on one disc, six on another.

thank you all for replying :)

I'm happy to say that I've solved the problem.. I've ditched the DVDFlick program, and replaced it by 'ConvertXtoDVD'. this program automatically adjusts file size (and quality) to match the available DVD memory space, and thus I could fit 12 (I think I could push it to 24 if I'd want bad quality) episodes on 1 disc :)

I'd recommend it to anyone, it's a really small program (around 16 Mb) but it works like a charm..

this thread can be closed. :)
