Ok here it goes. I know very little above dvd's and dvd players and recoders what i'm looking for is a dvd recorder internal or external or both for computer so i can record movies to them.

And then a home dvd player that will play them automatically or even some sort of remote device to play them on the home dvd player.

I have read something about having to have a certain type of dvd player and recorder and a special disc and even having to reformat the move to a different format.

Any help would be appreciated thank you

For a DVD player, you can buy anything that will play DVD-R or DVD+R (and this is just about every DVD player these days). Looking for a DVD recorder in your computer is quite similar - all modern DVD recorders will burn both DVD-R and DVD+R. Look for a retail kit rather than an OEM drive, as a retail kit will come with software. My personal favourite is the Pioneer DVR-A10XL. The software that comes with the drive, and/or downloadable freeware, should be sufficient to author home movies and burn them to the DVDs.

not that you would ever want to do this for the legal implications..... but something copyrighted can have its encryption removed using dvd decrypter, shrunk to the size of a normal 4.7gb disk with dvdshrink, and then burned with any burning program.... just for purposes of information

dvd

I would like to take the movies i have all ready downloaded from the internet that are mpg-avi-mov-ram or other format and burn them to a dvd disc and then be able to play them on a home tv dvd player.

I think you're right - mpeg2 files should work fine, just by burning them to a DVD. Assuming you're talking about non-copyrighted files, you can convert most formats easily. These are some of my favourite programs (but they're not free):

VSO DivXToDVD: http://www.vso-software.fr/download.php - Quite simple, effective, fast, but few authoring options (no menus, etc...)

TMPGEnc: http://www.tmpgenc.net/e_main.html - more options but more complex

As I said earlier, your DVD burner may come with software that will also work, I still regularly use my copy of Sonic MyDVD which came with my first DVD burner (although since burner prices have dropped, finding good bundled software has become more difficult).

In general, when looking for file convertors, Google is a good place to start.
