i installed a new sata hard drive because the original one crashed. i ran all the recovery disk including o/s and once the system rebooted after recovery, it will not boot up to windows. It just says DISK BOOT FAILURE INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER. this is an emachine el1210-09 desktop with vista home premium. All bios settings are ok(hd is seen and on number one drive and number one boot). I am stumped, someone please help.

hi,

did you set your CD/DVD drive to 1st boot? after that just press F5 or F12 to select the drive which is to be booted first....

Yeah, I have tried that and everything else I can think of. I actually put the new hard drive on another computer as a backup drive, and it shows all the files and system folders. I am stumped here.

I had this on a system up until yesterday when I accidentally fixed it. The only thing I can think of that I did that could have potentially fixed it is a CMOS reset. I had previously tried running the repair to see if it was missing a boot file (usually when booting into the OS fails it will be bootmgr.exe)

Failing that, you can leave the disc in the drive and it should boot up, then you can run Windows updates until you are at the latest release and see if that will fix it
