Need help with legal information on images used on websites

Ok looked all over google and couldn't find too much so heres the story, so pretty much i have a website and i need images for it like I'd pay for them from like istock.com or something but they don't have any of the images i want.

so what images can i legally take from the web and use them? or how does the legal issues go about when i take a image say off google image search and put it on my website?

and can i use screen shots of a game? or things like that?

Basically, you can't take any images legally. Unless the artist/publisher/whatever states they are royalty free or you get written permission to use them, you can not legally use them.

Screenshots from a game...eh, they're probably fine, but I'd be sure YOU made them. If someone else took them/edited them, it may be considered their work.
 
Google around for free royalty-free pictures or public domain pictures, which you can use freely on your website.
