Need help with my setup.

Hey everyone!

So I'm pretty new to the making/putting toghether of your own pc, but I really wanna do it :). So I was assembling a computer toghether on a website called alternate, and I wanna know from you guys if its a good setup or not, and why ;) (Picture of the setup as attachment).

Also, I have 1 paticular question:
Is 700 watt enough for this setup?

I hope you guys can help me out, thanks in advance!

(btw I'm from Holland, srry if I made some English/American grammar mistakes, and some words in the picture are from Holland :P)

You might want to get a 2500K, if its not much more in Holland. Plus those CPU coolers fans pull air down into them through the heatsink, blows hot air on the motherboard. Plus if you have a back case exhaust fan, it will fight with the CPU cooler for air. A upright cooler is better.

Yeah the 2500k costs only 10 euro's more, so I will definatly use that one :)

700 watts is way too much for that system. A good 500 watt unit would be sufficient for it.

Thanks! I think I'll use the XFX PRO550W, just to be sure :P

So an upwards cpu cooler is better? I as already said, I'm pretty much a newbie when it comes to computer building, could you please give me an example of an good ''upwards'' cooler? thanks in advance!
 
Oh srry I'm sending another reply in such a short time, but I forgot this;

I wanna use this system for Gaming. But if 700W is way to much watts for this system, will it succeed in being a fast gaming computer? And is 550W even enough for overclocking with that i5 sandy bridge 2500K?
 
yeah it should be. in my honest opinion theres not much need for overclocking a 2500k (no flaming me please, its just not something i see usefull at first), but you can overclock with 550W.
also look for a different brand PSU, like antec etc. i know alternate has them, dutchie over here :P and i get most of my parts there.

but all in all the whole system looks good and if you ever do plan to overclock its a good thing to get the 2500k

Yeah about the cpu, I followed Johnb35's advice and changed the PSU to the XFX PRO550W Core Edition, which seems pretty great ;).
Alternate is pretty awesome right? I love how the pcbuilder can tell if your setup will work toghether etc.
Cabinfever1997 and StrangleHold say an ''upwards cooler'' is better, what is you opinion on that one? And if you agree, could you give me the name of an good upwards cooler?
I'm pretty confiused about that :S

Sorry if I'm temporarily taking your thread in another direction, but you said the system would be for gaming. If so, I recommend that you get something a little more powerful than a 550Ti. If you want to stay with Nvidia, a 560 or 560Ti would work very well, but if you don't have the budget, a 460 would be a step up.

If you're gaming, your video card is going to be the most important component of your system. Even if you had to drop down from a 2500K (and say go with a 2400 or something), the tradeoff would be more than worth it, and pure profit from a gaming point of view.
 
I partially agree with Mishkin. If gaming is your only concern then I would advise getting a lower end CPU and higher end video card.

The 550 is plenty capable and what you have is a good setup but you will get more performance in gaming if you beef up the video card and cut back on the CPU.

I'm running a Phenom II X4 955 at 3.2GHZ and it works great for gaming. I don't think there are any games out yet that truly tax my CPU, and a 2500K is a much better CPU than mine. Not to say mine is bad however.

well an upright cooler doesnt interfere with the exhaust fan at the back if i have it right, correct me if im wrong anyone.

its bulky and expensive but sure does the trick lol.
but if you want to id advise the Antec Kuhler h2o CPU Liquid cooling.
 
Hey again! thanks again for those reply's, I apreciate you guys share your knowlage with me :D

I thought a 550ti was pretty good, but ill look into it. Would it be a good idea if bought the 550ti, and then after a while buy another video card? Thats the reason i wan't multiple PCIe slots, since my budget isn't really high right now ;). But if that 550ti really s**ks for gaming, i think i'll go for the 560ti from asus:
ASUS ENGTX560 Ti DCII/2DI

btw can someone help me by telling what the difference is between a normal (for example geforce GTX 550) nvidia card or a ti one? thanks!
 
The 550 TI is by no means a bad card. But I think if you redistributed your money a little bit, you could get a better performing gaming computer.

The 550 TI is a little bit better than my card. I overclocked my card a little and I can run any game I want at maxed or very close to it at 1600 x 900.

As for the TI vs not I just know the 560 TI is better.

LoL Raz3rd that Cooler Master V8 is really awesome but I don't think my system needs such an advanced cooler :P and about liquid cooling, I have 0 experience in building computers, how the heck could I manage to build a liquid cooling system? :P But anyway thanks;)

So I tried to figure out some things about getting the 550ti or a 560(ti), and I saw that a 560ti compared with a 550ti, takes 54 watt more than the 550ti. Is 550W still more then enough then? As I already said, I will most likely buy another videocard after a view months after I bought the whole system. Would 550w psu still be enough for 2 560ti's?
In the main time, ill try if i can find some kind of calculater for a psu :P.

550w may be cutting it. I'd go for at least 650w from a good brand like xfx/corsair/antec/silverstone/seasonic/pc power and cooling.

And I would recommend saving for a 560ti rather than two 550tis.

well the V8 is a good cooler, and will keep everything cool. and i really advise to get a different cooler instead of the stock cooler, as they do their job but leaves no room for overclocking in the future

the liquid cooling i was talking about was like the corshair h70 or antec kuhler h20. these are simple to apply just follow the instructions and thats it lol.

the 550ti is in no means a bad gaming card, its a mid end card and can play most games with ease. but if your budget allows to go to a 560ti go for it. as the 560ti is a way better card. but a 550W psu wont be able to power 2 560ti's. and im gathering you want to go SLI then with 2 560ti's?

if you can, try to get a 700W psu, just to be safe it will power everything.

The Scuthe samurai ZZ rev. could do the trick to right? I'll look into it, and see if I can find some reviews and tests about cpu coolers.

Yeh I picked out a good cooler master 700w cooler, the Cooler Master GX Lite to be exact.
