hey..i whant to overclock my intel p4 2.8...this is my mb: http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=845GEM-L&class=mb
i looked and i did find any programm for my mb,,, now,, there must be an option in bios to increase it a little bit
any1 to tell me what to calculate (IN SIMPLE WORDS) and what to change in bios ????
I looked in my bios and in Advanced bios setting but i couldnt find anything for FSB to change it
i could only find smth CPU Host/Pci CLOCK and it was set to deafult
and had these options:
126/33mhz
133/33mhz
134/33mhz
148/37mhz
...and ect....

maybe that it ?

Plz guys i really need some help and some ideas..there must be a way..

yeah, i think so, the first number is the FSB for CPU and sevond is the PCI speed. you increase the fsb to overclock your CPU, but dont raise it too high incase u burn out ur CPU/MoBo etc, overclocking is hot coz u gotta also put in extra vcore voltage to get it runnin stable. Also, if you set it too high and ur pc dont turn on, you can try clearing the CMOS, that will undo the overclock and turn ur pc back on (as long as nothing was damaged lol) hope that helps, u can find were ur Cmos is in ur MoBo manual.

well, on my ASRock motherboard (cheap mb) i can up the voltage. But you cant burn out your cpu just by upping the FSB, only if you up the voltage. The worst that would happen is that your computer just wouldnt start, in that case you reset the CMOS. Cause i tried overclocking my 3Ghz to 4Ghz and it wouldnt start, so i did that, i also tried to underclock it as low as it would go, still didnt work, lol. I just heard som beeps.

First of all : THANK u guys for repling
now i will try to increase that CPU Host/Pci CLOCK to smth small like .. 126/33mhz
133/33mhz maybe .. ? (will it still need more power )
now about indreasing the voltage i did found anything like that in bios HOW IS IT SUPPOSED TO BE NAMED ? and i have the deafult power supply will it be ok to turn the voltage a liitle more up ?
THX

The voltage settings for your CPU is Vcore, I don't know of any other labelings for that, maybe someone else would? When I was overclocking, it seemed I needed to raise the Vcore about .250 for every ~30 - 35 MHz I increased the "FSB".

it should not be called anything other than vcore. But you board may simply not have it. I remember looking into this board when you where trying to flash your bios to support hyperthreading. Did you ever sort that out by the way?

well whe you do that will reset your bios overclock. You will see some improvement gains when you do. I would recommend it. Look back through the old thread if you forgot the instructions

i choosed the option 126/33mhz and when i right clicked My computer it said 2.6Ghz :/
then i tried 134/33mhz and it said 2.8 then i tried 148/37mhz and the pc wasnt booting to windows screen ... so what shall i do ?? more voltage ? "and how" and how much ?

Honda2000 you need to pay attention to what has been said. Firstly you should have looked for the option saying vcore- this specifies your cpu voltage.

If you dont have it in your bios then you cant up the vcore and will be stuck with a lower overclock.

Is the system that you are overclocking the same as the one in your sig. If so then why when you up the fbs does your system report you have a 2.6ghz cpu - which is lower than the one you stated with.

Also those number you are giving dont add up, they are not linear with your scalar mulitplier constant (i dont know what it is but i know those figures dont add up)

you need to read up on overclocking more - read overclocking 101
http://www.computerforum.com/announcement.php?f=7

and dont use the my computer to get you clock speed, use cpu-z
http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

dont mean to sound harsh mate but do more research with the basics.

i know man.. but i already read that overclocking 101 many times and i will again
when it came with 2.6 maybe it was because at first it was set to deafult and maybe the first option was lower that the deafult. Yes thats my specs in the sign.
i dont know what i am supposed to calculate .. this is where i need your help .. :/

i looked at the bios and found Spread Spectrum option
that has +/- 0.25% , -0.5% , +/- 0.5% , +/- 0.38%
and the +/- 0.38% was selected  any ideas ??

here are some info of my system using cpu-z

ok, Honda, your stock fsb is 133, so any overclock is going to require you to increase the fsb above this level. Now you listed a few of you options back in post #1 but i assume there are more options beyond those listed.

Now to calculate your net clock speed (which at the moment is 2.8ghz) you multiply your fsb (at the moment 133.3) by your mutliplier (locked at 21) = 2755.5

So for example if you up your fsb to 148 (the last option on your list) then that will give you:
148 * 21 = 3108 ghz

mutliplier (locked at 21) that is setted deafult on my pc or i must change it ?
and when i set it to 148 the pc doesnt start ... so i have to give more voltage.. as i said in post #12 so ... what shall i do ? :/

u need to go more FSB and more Voltage , but i'd leave it up to apj101 or someone who knows alot about over clocking to tell you how much;)

p.s. you get more voltage by changing the vcore
