Need help with system configuration

I have a newer laptop that prints wireless to a wireless capable HP printer.
I have an older compaq that's working wireless to a router, but won't print.
The printer is hardwired to a third desktop computer and works fine. Should the printer have a RJ45 to the router and not hardwired to the desktop?
The older computer mentions infrared linking. Is it the older laptop software that isn't compatible with the wireless? Can I download a program to update it ?

Ok WE ARE GOING TO NEED SOME MORE INFO LIKE MAKE AND MODEL and what OS's you have.

1. You have a wireless printer
2, the wireless printer is also connected to a desktop with a cat5 cable
3. you have a router (wireless?) ( if wireless is the wireless enabled?)
4. you have a notebook that can connect using wireless to the wireless printer
5. You have another wireless notebook that can not connect to the wireless printer.
...also how far away / walls / is all the wireless from each other.

Newer Toshiba notebook with existing programs runs HP all-in-one printer 6180 (Vista) and wireless Internet.
Older Compaq Evo N610c with Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 3 runs wireless Internet, but not printer.
I think the newer Toshiba transmits direct to the wireless printer.
Printer is hard wired to third component = HP Desktop
Distance is not a factor. I don't think the compaq has printer software to find the wireless printer.
