3. Update:

Things are going well and I haven't had the blue screen in days now, but I still fear it may return at some point (I recall there were some words about a memory dump though, if that helps). I was still having the same IE problems, getting it to gain enough memory to show up, but have switched to Firefox and there haven't been any problems there. My major problem I still have is that the computer still hangs when I try to go on Standby or Hibernate mode, which leads me to believe there is still a major problem in there somewhere, and switching to Firefox is just avoiding the problem. EDIT: I've also noticed that in the Task Manager, my CPU Usage goes up to 100% and stays there for minutes at a time even when I don't have much open or do anything.

Lastly, I don't know, but my audio just shut off, Im thinking it's the headphones though, but the timing is just strange. 2 minutes later, my computer restarted itself, just got back online now.

Can you give me your system specs please.

I would need what processor you have, how much memory is installed, what hard drive you have installed and how much free space is on it.

Um, I don't exactly know what my specs are or how to check. I know I have about 5.65 GB of free space on my C drive out of 75 total GB. and my D drive is almost completely empty with around 60 free GB. My system is an ACER running windows XP, but beyond that I don't know.

Right click on "my computer" icon on the desktop or "computer" in the start menu depending on how you have it setup, and click on properties. On the general tab down toward the bottom, it will give you what processor and how much memory is installed.

ok thanks a lot. I used to be a lot more proficient with computers, i don't know why I'm so slow nowadays.

Microsoft XP
Home Edition
Version 2002
Service Pack 3

Acer Incorporated
AMD Athlon 64 Processor
3500+
2.21 GHz, 448 MB of RAM

On a side note, I don't know if Combofix deleted something important, but even since I ran it, my computer runs pretty slow at startup now, and I notice a lot of new processes popping up in Task Manager. They all seem legit, but I've never seen them before, and have to end many random new ones just so the comp runs smoothly. Still have the same other problems also, IE going up to around 4,356K and then just stalling w/o loading, not able to standby etc... Only improvement I've seen so far is no more blue screen.

Well, you definately need to buy more ram for your system. Running xp on only 448mb of ram plus running nortons and other programs will really cause system instability.

And if you are having to end processes on new files popping up, please let me know some of the file names so I can see whats going on. According to your hijackthis and combofix logs nothing should be happening right now.

Also, can you provide me with an uninstall log using hijackthis?

Open hijackthis and click on open misc tools section, then click on open uninstall manager, then click on save list, then copy and paste that list back here.

Also I need you to do one more thing.

Navigate to this file.

c:\windows\system32\drivers\sypsd.sys

and upload it to here http://www.virustotal.com/

Then copy and paste the link that you get from the results back here so I take a look at it.

I would like more RAM but there's no way I can afford more now. I was fine with the way my machine was running before all this began though and I had relatively the same amount of programs going on, maybe even more. I heard there was a way to turn existing disk space into RAM or something. I have nearly 60 free GBs on my D drive, and 5 free GBs on my C drive.

In my Task Manager the Commit Charge is always out of around 1000M. i don't know for sure, but I think thats 1GB of RAM? maybe i'm already committing a lot of my disk space for RAM?

EDIT: says Virustotal link is expired and file not found... i checked the report myself but understood very little. i don't know how to get you the link.

Darn... Just got the Blue screen again when I switched Users on my comp. Nothing seems to have improved.

Can't see the screen too well. Upload that file again and give me the link. What error does it give you?

this is the permalink they gave me:

analisis/2639b35770113a6fab7deeb9d86d172ad77bc63ab7fc6649aee65597b8c857b7-1263987038

add virustotal.com before that.

I didn't really get an error, just after a few minutes, when I click on the link it doesn't show the report anymore and just says "file NOT FOUND"

I asked you before what error code was on that screen and you never said what it was. The screen is to dark for me to see what it is. If your sound is still out, you may need to do a fresh install of the Operating system. And that link you gave me, only one program identified that file as bad so i'm not gonna have you delete it.

Have you ran ccleaner on your system lately to clean out all your old temp files and such?

The blue screen said:

A problem has been detected and Windows has shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps.

Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver isidentified in the stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video cards.

Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to, use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select advanced startup options, and then select Safe mode.

Technical information:

[?] lines of numbers

Beginning dump of physical memory
Physical memory dump complete.
Contact your system manufacturer or technical support group for further assistance.

That's basically what it said.

I have downloaded ccleaner and will run it tonight. Good news was that my sound problem was just my headphones after all. Replaced them with some cheap ones so I have sound again, although terrible quality.

General update: Still the same. Can't go on standby. Can't switch users without one logging off. IE having a hard time starting up sometimes. Also sometimes CPU Usage stays at around 100% for a long time when I'm trying to view certain pages which shouldn't take long to load.

We need that line of numbers (called "stop code"). The "stop" message is the only way to evaluate the specific problem causing the BSOD. I know its long and kind of tedious to write down.

darn, i'm trying to read it but it's really hard. i can make out numbers here and there, but i guess i'll have to wait for it to happen again. i know it will because i still have all the other problems going on.

also, i don't know if my computer restored from a restore point or not, but i'm now noticing quicktime loading up in my icon tray at startup again, and i'm pretty sure you all advised me to get rid of it through HijackThis and i did.
