Need help with unlocking 6950 shaders

The Download & instructions are courtesy of TechPowerup!

Grab ATI Winflash (32 & 64-bit).
Download HD 6970 BIOS. The Sapphire one I linked to will work on all reference design cards from any vendor.
Make sure the BIOS switch on the card is set to the 1 position (pictured further down if you don't know where it is).
Run ATI Winflash, click Save to save your BIOS, so you have a backup in case something goes wrong.
Load the HD 6970 BIOS into Winflash by clicking Load Image, followed by Program.
Let the flashing process complete and reboot your system.
Check the shader count using GPU-Z, it should show 1536. Make sure you use the linked version of GPU-Z, the official 0.4.9 version does not support HD 6900 Series properly. If you see a shader count of 1600, your GPU-Z version is outdated and you should get the one from the link here.
To ensure maximized performance open Catalyst Control Center, go to the Overdrive tab and set the PowerTune slider to the +20% setting. The "Testing" section of this article has more data on that.
Check stability in Windows desktop applications and games.

If you get an error like ID mismatch or Could not erase ROM, then you'll have to do some extra work in a Windows command prompt (or DOS): Run atiwinflash -unlockrom 0 followed by atiwinflash -f -p 0 bios.bin where bios.bin is the path and filename of the HD 6970 BIOS you downloaded.

Mind you that flashing a BIOS can always be tricky, you do so at your own risk.

All i can say is only do this if you know the risks,People have reported their cards just dying a few weeks after these mods,Thats why i only have the shader unlock bios on mine and not the full out 6970 mod because the voltages and speeds are diffrent.

If you want just the "Shader unlock" Bios with stock 6950 Voltages and freq i have it saved. :)

Ive uploaded the Bios im using for you as its the only one that worked for me,All the others i tried were throwing me the the annoying "ID mismatch or Could not erase ROM"!!!

Download -
http://www.filefactory.com/file/ca523ac/n/6950_shader.rar

Just run the windows batch file "Flash to 6950 shader"

Ive heard with Crossfired cards its best to take one out,Flash it...then when its confirmed as flashed with Gpuz, take it out and do the same with the other...when thats done but both back in together.
Not sure why,Just heard its easier.

I wont be hold responsible for anything bad that happens from this please be aware!

1.Download and install Winrar.
2.Locate the downloaded .rar file i gave you, right click and select "Extract here"
3.the extracted .rar folder will now be on your desktop..open it!
4.click on the file called "Flash to 6950 shader" and follow the instructions on the box that pops up.

without adjusting any of the frews or voltages?
That Bios i gave you is just the shader unlock only,It will not adjust any voltages or clock/memory speeds....they will stay the same as a default 6950...all it does is unlock the disabled shaders!

OK, so i downloaded the file, all i see is flash to 6970 and flash back to 6950.... which file should i use? and what setting does the card need to be on? 1 or 2?

"flash to 6970"...and swich the switch on the card to Pos 2.

It wont actually flash it to a 6970,Just to a stock 6950 exept it will unlock the additional shaders. :)

Do i use ati flash? or simply double click the flash to 6970 file itself?

Double click the "flash to 6970"...it should do it automaticly.

I tried those ones that you have to use Atiflash with and they never worked for me.

I believe there's a backup switch on 6950's to recover your old bios in case anything goes south. You shouldn't be out of luck like you would've been if you'd tried it on previous gen cards.

Did not work.. :( What do I do now? I clicked the Flash to 6970 file as administrator, requested to restart pc and nothing happened...

Ok successfully done with that mod! I found out since I have a XFX card, the 2 position on the switch is a permanently locked bios. After switching to position 1, viola, 1536 shaders!:good:
