Ok well recently my laptop has decided to just stop working. Here is the problem. Oh, and I'm running XP Pro.

For the last couple months it seemed like the fans would be running 24/7. Not sure why, but it was like it was over working just to stay running. If the laptop was on, the fans were running. Very loud!

Well in the last two weeks the laptop would just shut down randomly. Now I get one of a few things when I try to boot up.

1. Black screen w/ just a cursor.
2. Black screen with something that says "Error reading disk. Press CTRL ALT DELETE to restart"

Twice I was able to boot into Safe Mode. After I got to Safe Mode I would reboot to normal and it worked fine.

This time it doesn't want to budge. It will not boot into safe mode for me. It gets to this black screen with a lot of C:/Windows blah blah blah...then it just locks up. Last address it shows is C:/Windows/something something/DRIVERS....

(cant remember exactly...I'm at work at the momemt and don't recall)

Does any one know what is going on? What I can do to save it?

I'm about ready to switch to a Mac

A reload may be in order, but it also almost sounds like a failing hard drive... Try a full format and reload of your OS and see if that fixes it.

yea I get the feeling it's the HDD too. Can that be replaced on this machine?

Full format? That means I have to erase the HDD competely right? :(

yea the harddrive can be replaced not sure how on that model
but most have one screw on the bottom at the edge of the laptop and you either push the drive caddy strait out or you pop the caddy cover up and then pull the drive out.
and yes a format does mean to erase everything
