Need input on a strange problem.

A few months ago, I started having problems with my graphics card. Normal display was fine but in games, the graphics were there but the colors and textures were going crazy. I updated all the drivers and still no change. I also swapped in another video card temporarily and my problems were solved. A few weeks ago, i started to notice black lines through text boxes and strange pink lines randomly.......then....nothing. The screen goes black and comes back with a warning from ATI that the VPU recovered from a serious error. So at this point I am still thinking a problem with the vid card.

Now, even with the card out and the computer off I am getting a high-pitched squealing noise from the power supply as soon as I switch it on. It sounds like a camera flash charging.

So, at this point I am thinking that I may have a problem with the video card and the Mobo or PSU

Any thoughts?

DEFINITELY a problem with the PSU, you might want to replace that as soon as possible, and it sounds like the GPU is probably wack too, RMA it if you can, but you might want to try it with a new PSU first. I don't even know if this is possible, but if your PSU was putting out the wrong voltages or something, I could see it messing up the color.

I tend to agree with PohTay Toez-

The PSU could easily caused some serious problems, replace it and try the system again, unless it fails at some point and then you will know the vid has gone too.
