Need lots of help - new build -

I'm looking to build a computer for myself. I started out reading some posts and than off to newegg where I just started grab-bagging. Back to here and started reading some of the 101 help threads.

I just think it might be easier for me to just list what I started with and go from there. I'm looking to spend some money on my build, like to stay under 5k if possible. I have a 2000 Micron right now but nothings really worth keeping I don't think. What I'd really like to have is a kick butt gaming unit with dual monitors. I was wondering if you could put like a big LCD up on the wall and two smaller monitors on the desktop. The larger LCD being for gaming and movies.

Well this is what I started with

(1 each) eVGA 768-P2-N831-AR GeForce 8800GTX 768MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Video Card - Retail

PC Power & Cooling Turbo-Cool 1KW-SR EPS12V 1000W Continuous @ 50°C Power Supply - Retail

Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound - OEM

(I have no clue about mobos) ASUS P5W DH DELUXE/WIFI-AP Socket T (LGA 775) Intel 975X ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

(this comes with a coller) Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 Conroe 2.93GHz LGA 775 Processor Model BX80557X6800 - Retail

Help me build a monster guys....... I have built a few some 10+years ago. But really did'nt learn that much other than the basics back than.

TIA :D Mike

This build kicks so much ass that it prally runs without it......it will run without keyboard and mouse too.........maybe a case would be important......i believe this is an awesome machine for sure though.

yeah I did'nt post the case and other small stuff because I did'nt want to get a clutter of things to improve right off the bat, so I take it these things will work together?

Opps...hehe...... yeah the memory can't beleive I forgot that, after looking I've decided to change the mobo as well-

Intel BLKD975XBX2KR Socket T (LGA 775) Intel 975X ATX Intel Motherboard - OEM

with

(should I get 4 gigs?)CORSAIR Dominator 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit

I was reading some guys build "faster computer", he had two video cards going to one monitor for faster rates. I was wondering if I wanted to have dual screens and then be able to switch over to a big screen could I split the cables and just turn off the smaller two monitors. Or would I need two video cards?

Well this is why I'm asking here, I just want to build a good system that I'm not tinkering with later. But anyways nobody is critiquing the system itself, what about the psu, is that too big?

And no I'm not rich.. been searching for better pricing and came up with 700 bucks for the qx6700

How is the project going?

I am in similar scenario, except it's been roughly 20 years (286 to 386SX time frame).

I anticipate more HD video editting and home theater versus gaming, so I will probably cut back on the video card a little. My poor little Celeron M laptop started gasping for air on stanard video editting.

I expect the qx6700 should give plenty spring for several years ahead.
