Need printer help

Hi guys,
Heres the story: A friend of mine is having trouble with getting his printer to work. He has a main family computer in the study connected to the printer, then theres his computer off in another room, connected by ethernet to the modem. What he wants me to do is go around and get his printer working. Im pretty sure the printer is connected to the main computer through the usb cable, and his is into the modem through ethernet. I'm not sure what OS he's running, but it is most likely XP. How do I get the printer to print from his computer in his room, connected to the modem. He said something about turning printer sharing on, but I don't know what he's done. I'm going around tomorrow to have a look.

Would I add the printer as a network printer or something? I've done this sort of thing with my desktop, except through a wireless card and a wireless modem. I'm not sure what it's like through an ethernet cord into the modem.

Also, i'd have to go through the main computer in order to connect it right?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks :)

both have to be on and networked to the computer. you have to network and create a workgroup say as as example on all computer. The workgroup all has to have same name workgroup name. it could be named homegroup or what ever. create a computer name for each computer. i have dodgeram, mine, wife, basement etc. i know where its at. you can do all mentioned from the control panel. in the control panel with the printer hooked up right click and share the printer. on the one that wants to use it search for a new printer and find it.
