Need Program to Go from Xvid to DivX

I'm going insane over here. I need to convert a video from Xvid to DivX so my mom can play it on her DivX cert DVD player. I'm trying everything from Xvid to DivX to converting the Xvid to Uncompressed AVI, so I can convert it to DivX. No matter what I do it will NOT work.

Tried to convert with VLC, it does nothing. Tried to convert with AutoGK, does nothing. Tried DivX's encoder, does nothing. Even tried another program that I can't remember the name of.

Please help, I just need a free application to get it to an Uncompressed AVI or directly to DivX.
 
not sure what os your using but what ive done is just used windows dvd maker in win 7 and just let it convert and burn to a dvd, i also have convertx2dvd seems like it would be easier this way
 
Problem is I want to convert it to DivX so I can fit it on 1 DVD. The other way I'm going to use a ton of discs.

I use NERO Recode to burn a larger file like a store bought dvd movie (which is generaly on a dual layer disc) to a standard single layer dvd. It recodes it to fit the target. If your burner suports dual layer burnlng you could just buy some dual layer dvd's but they're much more exspensive. I use to use another program called DVD Shrink, but whatever you end up doing keep in mind that simply converting to an another file type like DivX doesn't necessarily mean it's gonna fit. You need to look at recoding (shrink it).
