Need purchasing advice for an IT student

Hello! I am going into an IT program and need a new laptop. I am looking to spend around $1000 and hopefully no more than $1500. Spending less than $1000 on one would be awesome. These are the requirements for the desktop I will need. I am hoping to purchase a laptop with these same specifications. I would also like for it to be fairly lightweight.

-4GB+ system memory
-Intel multi-core processor
-sound card & speakers
-webcam (one with a higher resolution is recommended)
-microphone
-DVD recorder
-dual-head video card

Thank you ahead of time for taking time to answer my questions. I assure you that I am extremely grateful. :)

What exactly do you need to do with this laptop? I'm willing to bet you could make do with something a little cheaper.

ok, wile we might be able to help you save some money, what exactly are the video card requirements? Cause I am airly certain that you will not find a dual head card in a laptop that will allow both heads to be used at the same time. The cards just lack the power.

Nothing affordable anyway.

I do not know exactly what it will be used for, since I am not actually in school yet. I am asking about this because I have to put together a budget to be submitted and approved before I can start school, so I am not able to ask a teacher what we will be doing. (Believe me, this budget is a pain. I am having to look ahead and submit all expenses for the next four years.)

The desktop is supposed to have two monitors with a matching dual-head video card. Here is a link to my school's CIT computer requirements: http://www.wku.edu/cit/computer_req.php These are the req's for the primary CIT computer that will only be used for class. [This is what the school says: "The primary CIT computer must be a dedicated machine that can be reconfigured, networked, and disassembled as needed to meet the requirements of each class. Many of the operating systems and software packages will require installations or configurations that may interfere with the normal operation of a daily-use, office or 'family' machine."] I would like a laptop that is as similar as possible to it that I can use for class as well as general school stuff (word processing, internet, etc). I also want my laptop to be able to be used by my boyfriend as well and it be our "home" computer.

Could I just use the laptop screen and one of the other monitors the same as if I was using both monitors with the desktop?

Sorry, I know this is a lot of info. LOL! Thank you again for all your help!
