For starters I would ditch the PNY Video Card and get this one for less, which is much better.

The Motherboard does have onboard sound,so No you do not need a sound card.

This is the HDD I would recommend.

As far as everything else it is ok, may want to think about buying a better PSU.

XP does come with Word but no Office Applications.

The cables that come with the MB should be suffecient unless you want fancier one's.

I would buy a additional fan for the front, looks to be a 80mm.Not sure but maybe someone with this case will chime in.

If you only using the computer for dial up then you might want to think about dsl with your build. Aslo take a look at Computer Specs Mabye you can save some money if you need to, if not I like your build :) You can upgrade you hdd to a 320 gig for only a little more if you need the space. ( link in my sig )

Don't confuse him with this, Its not even relevant. DSL will go from the modem to the computer using RJ45 which that MB has. Unless there is modems still around that came over on the Mayflower he should be good to go. If he has straight Dial-up he will need a Modem for his computer.

I actually thought the DSL was a good suggestion. He said he will be gaming, a large part of pc gaming is playing online, which is generally not possible with dial up.

I dont see a cpu selection? I am missing something or do you not need one?

dont know why it didnt make it form the copy and paste. good catch

i'll check out that video card and HDD. this is why i'm asking.

i was wanting the fancier cables if they didnt add to much to the over all cost. since ive decided to really do this i want the best i can get at first.

by the way i was easily confused at first but not so much now. still some. but if i have any questions i'll be sure to ask. thanks

anybody else have any suggestions ?

Arctic, im not sure if your interested or not, but i have a Brand New Maxtor DiamondMax10 300GB 16MB Cache 7200RPM SATA150 Hard Drive, im selling it for $100.

just some dial-up internet, some photo stuff from digital camera, and just home office stuff. maybe games if i can ever get DSL !

dont know anything about OC'ing so no for now.

i hope that first list is all the parts ? ( 'cept for keyboard, mouse, monitor. want to get 19" flat screen).
that is why i'm asking to see if i am complete.

thanks

u should maybe go with 1gig of ram and a dual core amd but cheapest would be 295 usa

no offense or anything, just constructive criticism. if he has an AMD 3200+ selected i dont think recommending an AMD X2 is the best idea. I agree with you its a better selection, but unfortuneatly not realistic.

if hes just going to be using the computer for internet, photo managing, and perhaps a few games, theres no need for a dual-core. In fact theres no need for a 7600GT.

But i agree with you, 1GB of ram would be much better to have.

aight aight i just kinda of looked at graphics card and thought hey gaming lets go dual core aight aight thx guys this is y i came here lol (tongiht though my dad called me the nerd of the family tonight even thogh i a chic magnet)

so ya'll think all i "need" is 1 Gig RAM ? i was thinking more is better. but if i really dont need it please advise. thats some $$$ to put on monitor. also if i can downgrade the video card make a suggestion. i'll consider anything. this is just what i have pieced together on very limited knowledge.

thanks
