need serious advice ?

just some dial-up internet, some photo stuff from digital camera, and just home office stuff. maybe games if i can ever get DSL !
talk about overkill, you can get a rig for $200 that will do all that just as quick

I am going to have to agree with apj101 above. To be honest, for what you are planning; you might want to look at this.

http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=335974&pfp=cat3

I bought one for my six year old son, and it works fine for everything. I only added a wireless card so that he could use the cable internet and all was set.

I also saw above where you asked if Win XP came with any type office programs. That would be a "no". I don't know if you care for the retail version of Win XP, but $85 for OEM is a bit steep.

dang, talk about shooting a mans dreams down. LOL
this is what i was expecting all along. except now i know what good stuff is and dont want to settle for less. i'm still really considering this much of a build but it looks like it might happen soon. i know its a lot to spend on a pc but that is why i want to do it with good recommended parts so it will last a very long time.( hopefully.) i have run the build at the minimum level but it always just makes more since to me to go ahead and get not top of the line stuff but good quality stuff. and that way it'll be( at least in my mind) longer before i do have to upgrade if i do get into games. which i think i will.

thanks for the replies.

what other OS is there ? for how much ?
