Alright I don't wana mess this up this is really important. The graphics card for the new desktop I'm building is a GeForce 9800 GX2 1GB from BFG tech

So the problem is im being told that nividia is on the verge of releasing a new GTX 280 chip set that will blow the 9800s out of the water

Now the problem is that im ordering this 9800 and i wanted to know since BFG has a trade up policy of 100 days

would it work to buy this card now and pay the difference for a gtx 280 later when it comes out?
 
I can tell you about EVGA "step-up" program. I have been told the programs are almost the same. I bought an EVGA 8800 GTX and wanted to buy another for SLI. Everybody stopped selling it so I called EVGA. They told me the chipset is outdated and asked me to do their step-up program. I had to e-mail them a copy of my Newegg receipt and register my graphics card online. I mailed the card to them (make sure you keep the original packaging and all componets) and once they get it they mailed me the new EVGA 9800 GTX. Their stipulation was the newcard had to "be in the price range" of the new card. The 9800 GTX was $10 dollars more than the 8800 GTX and they said it was no problem. You will have to put your credit card info into the website so they can charge you the few extra dollars for shipping and what ever more the new card costs. I can say this...EVGA has the best customer service of any company I have delt with, they walked me through the entire process. You will have to call BFG and get the full details. A good friend of mine only uses BFG and says they have great customer service also!

One more thing...make sure you have room in your case for the new card. I have what I thought was a big case...The 9800 GTX is 11.5 inches long (according to the Tom's Hardware forum). I have not actually mesured it. I have to move my hard drives to fit this card in! It makes my 8800 GTX look like a baby! It's soo big I cant even run SLI unless I make more room in my case(might have to do some cutting with the hard drive trays!
