Need Sites To Build A PC.

The only site I've found to build my pc is Dell. I want Windows XP preinstalled which is the only reason why I don't go buy one from a store.
This is what I came up with at Dell. Would actually liked to have an HP but couldn't get Windows XP for it preinstalled.

Can someone please list a couple sites that I can build my own pc. It's the only way I know of to get XP preinstalled. Thanks!!

Built from Dell site.... Cost, $1029.00.

Maybe I don't need that much Memory for an XP?

it is going to be hard to find xp pre-installed. but a lot of comp. sites do customising like gateway. etc.

You selected win xp 32bit home edition, you do not need, nor can you use 4 gigs of ram with that OS. 2 gigs would be all you need.

Also, that video card is crap! Upgrade to at least a 8600. You will not be able to play any of the newer games with that 8300 at any decent settings.

And why in the world do you need a 56k modem? Are you still out in the sticks and can't get at least a DSL connection?

Please consider building your own, or finding a buddy that will build it for you. You will get a much better system for the same price!

I did have a choice of XP Professional. Is that much better? Didn't think I would need that. I've always had Home Edition before.

The 56k modem is free so I thought I'd check it. The video card I would have to purchase elsewhere. There's no other choices even when I called Dell that's all they would give me. I can go down to 2 g of ram though.

I wish I had the confidence of building my own but I know something would go wrong with it.

Any other websites that anyone knows of that I can just choose what I want like Dell's website?

You can get 64 bit versions of XP, but the ones you selected are 32 bit, so the most you can use is 3 gigs, but I would stick with 2 gigs. XP runs very well on that amount.

As for other company's that let you select parts for a build, there is always www.alienware.com but they are expensive. A decent basic system will be around $1800 from them.

For $1800 you could build yourself a great system that can run all of the newest games at full specs.

Or you can try finding a local shop that will custom build you a system.

If you do go the route of having a local shop do it for you, do your research first. Know which parts you want to use and tell them that you have done the research and will not settle for less.

Local shops will always try to get you to spend more, so be prepared to say no to them. And do not let them substitute parts you are unsure of.

Go in there letting them know what you want right from the start.

We can help you select parts, and then you can take that list to them and tell them this is what you want.

Just let us know if you want us to select the parts for you.

Exactly. Good advice, paratwa! :)

I agree, such a powerful system would go to waste with such a crappy graphics card, check out the evga 8600 or 8800gts, they are relatively inexpensive but run great chipsets.
something nobody has mentioned, if you are looking for a gaming PC why not upgrade to windows vista and take advantage of directx 10!
I would agree with the rest of the guys, instead of ordering from dell and paying for their useless service, find a trusted well reputed builder in your area. you could always order the parts yourself and have some geeky computer science major do the work for far less than a professional, but you run the risk of needing to trouble shoot yourself which is for the more advanced user.
You can always find a trusted builder on this site as well, give a deposit via paypal and pay in full when the computer is ready via COD so you can check all the specs - most of the builders on this site are enthusiasts who do it for the love of building these rigs and will have the utmost professionalism!

for $1029 w/o monitor, you can build yourself a pretty high end machine. or order the parts yourself through newegg or site of your choice, and have someone do the work for $100-$150 which is very reasonable considering most people who know what they are doing wont take more than a few hours to assemble and configure the p.c.
