I need some backup software to use with my external hard drive. If anyone can recommend some that'd be great. I have no clue if there are any good freeware backup programs but it doesn't matter if what you list is freeware or not.

i would suggest using the software that came with the hdd ur brought. if u know which brand ur hdd is u can go to it's website and donwload the copy-copy drive software for free.

It was a WD My Book Essential, it doesn't come with software, that's why I'm asking for a program which you guys know to be reliable.

Why not just right-click and copy, or right-drag and choose Copy for the files and folders you want backed up to the external drive? Simple, fast, and best of all, free. You can back up the files and folders onto CD-R/RW or DVD±R/RW as well for extra insurance. Then if your PC ever goes kaboom and you need to reformat, just do it and drag your saved files and folders back to where they were before.

Well I also have a lot of programs on my computer and I'm not sure if it's possible to just insert the program files from before and have them work. I could be wrong but I think that it has to be in the registry as well, which I'm not sure if the dragging and dropping of files does. And also I wanted to have something that would backup on a regular basis, something like a schedule.

If the program is already installed AND you don't have the MAIN EXE you can't save the program. This is true UNLESS you want to GHOST your HD (exact Copy).

That makes me crazy...
Ghost is most well-known software, but it costs too much.
Doesn't have much functions and makes backups quite slowly.
i do not understand why do people buy it.
onec bought Ghost i made big mistake.
whatever, if i were i'd definetly download True Image
