Need some headset/mic info. I have no experience with this.

I've always been a console gamer. Not too much experience with pc peripherals. If I get a headset and mic to use voice chat while playing a game, can I still have the game audio come through my speakers and keep voice chat on the headset. I ask because I will be playing from my couch on my tv and my wife likes to watch me play, but she will want to be able to hear what's going on in the game. I basically want it to work like a xbox 360 does.

I am also curious as to the difference between a USB headset and the kind with a separate mic & headphone analog connection.

if you purchase a headset with a usb connection, and the game your playing will allow you to chose the output device, you can do this.

I.E. run ventrilo through your headset and game sounds out the speakers.

some games let you some do not.
