Need some help choosing a computer for my needs

Hi.

I am looking to purchase a new desktop. I was thinking about building my own, but have no knowledge on building one.

I play a lot of online poker. I want to be able to run dual monitors so that one screen is poker windows and the other one is web browsing/videos/blu ray/etc. I want it to be fast with whatever programs I throw at it.

Dont play computer games yet, but would like to.

If I were to purchase one, I was looking at the Dell XPS 630 line that is currently on sale. Looks like I can get one with a 24" monitor from Costco for $1700.

http://www.costco.com/Browse/Produc...12&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Nty=1&topnav=&s=1

Then I found this on Newegg.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883229078

The price is really good, and it seems to have the same or better components than the Dell. I would just need to buy the monitors.

I have no info about Cyberpowerpc or the other brands offered by Newegg already configured.

Can anyone tell me if this is a good product that will suit my needs, if I should go with the DellXPS for more money, or if I can build a better one for the same price ($750).

And if I can build a better one for the price, what that build would be.
Thanks
Sorry for the long first post.

the cyberpower would be good and at a grand less you cant go wrong. and with all the money your saving you could pick up another 4 gigs of ram and have 8gigs. but that would be overkill.

Building one isn’t the hard part. What’s hard is trying to decide what you want versus what you need then trying to choose among a seemingly endless selection of components - Then making sure everything is compatible and fairly balanced. Post what you’ll be doing with the computer and your budget and there are plenty here willing to help you spec and assemble your first build. You’ll have exactly what you want and understand a lot more about the system than if you buy one off the shelf.

Thanks for the replys.

I also just saw that the 24" Imac has been reduced to $1500. Would also like to hear opinions on that will work for my needs.

Budget is probably up to $2000 with 2 24" monitors included. I would like to save as much money as possible though.

Figured I could get that Cyberpowerpc with dual 24's for about ~$1300.

My needs:

I need a fast computer with no lag or delay while having multiple windows going. I want to play about 6-8 poker windows on one screen, while watching blu ray videos or web browsing on the other screen. Or possibly even gaming on the other screen.

Would it be possible for these computer options to allow 6 window of poker while playing some of the new computer games without lagging or freezing?

Besides those needs, I think I am pretty standard for computer usage. Itunes, web browsing, and some random programs.

My main thing is fast while running multiple programs/tasks.

Appreciate all the help

As you have specific monitor needs I’d decide on those first. Looks like at least $520 for two 24”. These Acers are the cheapest, but look to be a good choice judged by buyer’s satisfaction.

That would leave up to $1,500 for your upper budget which should buy a very fast i7 setup, or save a little and go with a Q9550 rig.
Here’s an i7 I’m working on for a friend. http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=12486688 Subtract the monitor, some of the hard drives and chose a cheaper case and you’d be in the $1500 range.

jevery- thanks for the links. To be honest on the build I have no idea of what parts to change and what to change to. A lot of the stuff listed there is new to me.

That monitor looks good, but I dont know if I can get over the old school duck feet that the panasonic plasmas used to have.

This samsung after rebate seems to be the same price roughly. What do you think about it? The only downside I can see in the specs for the Sammy is the response time and not having HDMI.

This might be a good compromise, HDMI, better response, and better reviews – and this from a Samsung fan.

Really building a computer isn’t for everyone, but isn’t hard either, especially with a little help. The only thing I can criticize about the Cyberpower is the G31 chipset which corresponds to lower end motherboards, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ... 40000280&Description=G31&bop=And&Order=PRICE. Many here spend as much on a motherboard as on the processor.

You would have more future options with a P45 or X38 based board if you decide to overclock a little or run two video cards. :)

jevery- to be honest with you I had no idea what overclocking was, so I just googled it. As far as the chip. I found this package that has the Intel Core I7 and the x58 chipset. Maybe this one would be a good package???

Any comments on going with the 24" Imac that is now reduced to $1500. Can u run dual monitors on those? And if so can it be any monitor and not a 2nd Apple Monitor?

Well whatever you do don't get a Dell. And if you plan on multitasking that much, I would go with a Quad-Core.
