Need some help please

Sounds like you need a Welcome to the Computer Forum! http://www.computerforum.com/70672-official-welcome-thread.html and just a reminder given to new members to review the http://www.computerforum.com/52038-forum-rules.html

When looking over some Kingston memory(DDR2 800) for a new build here the price seen at newegg.com was about $88- for a pair of 1gb dimms. That would be the slower speed of 667mhz seen for the lower price there and reasonable but not fantastic since that's the budget memory not the Value Ram or performance memory(Hyper X) made by Kingston.

The current price at newegg will scare you there. That same memory is seen for $118.99 at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134192 It would seem that newegg marked that type up quite a bit or CompUSA is having a good fall sale.

So the RAM that I posted.... is that a good buy then? Or should I stay away from 'valueRAM'?

It also has no 'heat spreaders'. Is that going to be a problem?

The Value Ram is the better memory for the higher price seeing heat spreaders. On the last 939 build here plus temporarily seen on the old Socket A build before that I ran 2gb of their DDR400 memory. The older boird was seeing memory error with a matched of Corsair xms series 512s followed by memtest reporting more on the Kingston memory then. The 939 saw no errors period reported by memtest and the memory run that sysem smoothly.

The new build now in use sees 2gb of the Hyper X performance type. I had looked at the same memory for the 800mhz speed seeing a pair of 1gb dimms for $88 recently at newegg. That was far cheaper then the current price I posted earlier for the 667mhz memory you found a good price for. The type of build you have there should be the deciding factor for the memory used. Here I simply wanted to see a performance boost for the new work horse type build while I was again considering the Value Ram for seeing a lower price. For a basic low cost system the memory seen at Comp should work out.

For gaming or simply to see a higher performance value you can step upto a memory like the Value Ram or Corsair's value memory also sees good reviews. The lack of heat spreaders is typical for the low end memory while they still should work being a good brand to start with. For any ocing or serious gaming then you start looking at the better memory types by Kingston or some other good brand.

What make and model board do you have there? I was giong to add that if it supported DDR2 800 memory why not spent a little more for the faster memory since that isn't good for any ocing. The price climbed fast however on the memory seen for $88 is now seen for $109.99 at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134488

I'm rather glad I placed the orders for the new build back in July and August after seeing the prices now seen. Summer clearance probably.

They apparently knocked the price down on Corsair while rasing it on Kingston. Some of this is probably due to their supplier rather then their own pricing seen for that. A look at the board's specifications would be needed for seeing what that supports however.
