Need some helpful advice regarding upgrade

I have a gateway DX4831-01e.
It has an i3-530 2.93 ghz dual core processor, 6gbs of ddr3 ram, no video card, and a 300 watt PSU.

My PLAN is to upgrade to an intel i5-750 quad core processor, add a GeForce GTX 460 1GB video card, and upgrade the PSU(obviously).

Two questions based on this information:

One: Is this a possible upgrade without getting a new motherboard, and if so

Two: I know i would need to upgrade the PSU, but which psu should I get and what wattage should it be?

Thanks for any and all information, please try to be as detailed as possible!

In case anyone is wondering, I plan on gaming, have had people tell me my current setup is alright(not the best), but i just want that extra power. Not interested in Overclocking at the moment unless i get a Corsair H50 as well.

From what I can tell that computer has a Micro atx motherboard,so you would probably want to upgrade your motherboard(don't throw away the ram It's pretty fast and you can Use It in your new Motherboard).

also, do you plan on running two video cards together in the future?

and for the PSU, 700-750w is fine.

The motherboard is fine unless, as Knunez said, you want to run 2 video cards.

Now, the 530 is actually an i3 quad core, not an i5 dual core. Either way you can continue to use your old motherboard if you wish.

As for a power supply, this is good if you don't plan to use to video cards.

This one is good if you are on a tight budget.

alright but I can simply swap the i3-530(which is a dual core, i have some people telling me it has a virtualized quad core experience, but it is realistically a dual core)

what I am understanding is I can safely swap the i3-530 to i5-750 right(without getting a new motherboard?)

now I am planning on buying the GeForce GTX 460 1gb. And you are saying that the Corsair 650 watts would take care of my setup needs.

The only reason I am asking all these questions is I dont want to make a mistake. and yes I know I will probably need fresh thermal paste(maybe Arctic Silver 5)

Yes, being technical it has 2 physical cores, each with 2 threads. Regardless, yeah, if you want to be safe find your motherboard that's in the pc now and see if it has any restrictions as to which CPU's it will support. It's the same socket type, so it actually fitting is no issue.

And yeah, that corsair is pretty nice. It will handle that GPU with no problem.
